Book Week 2023

Parents reading books to kid, happy parenting,

Pupils enjoyed Book Week 2023 in March. Inspired by 'The Day the Crayons Quit', there were lots of activities across the week.

Sharing stories together at home for just 10 minutes a day will encourage a love of reading and it’s fun for everyone!

Well done to all the 4th class boys and girls who took part in a Gaelic Football Blitz in Somerton on Tuesday March 15th. Scoil Thomáis played a team from St.Patrick’s Diswellstown. On what was a very cold day, the players showed their skill and picked up a few wins along the way!

Our 5th and 6th Class boys enjoyed taking part in the Spar 5-a-Side competition in Gannon Park, Malahide!

Classroom News

Room 19 have been learning all about the Celts and how they lived. The students have recreated a model of a Celtic settlement made from wattle and daub, topped with a thatched roof and surrounded by a ringfort! Take a look at these fantastic creations!

Ms. Ketterick’s Second Class in Room 10 have been working hard completing the annual ‘An Post Junior Handwriting Competition’.

Over the last few weeks, they have been discussing sustainability and the different ways that they can contribute to making Ireland a ‘Happier and Healthier’ place by 2030. You can see some examples of their wonderful handwriting in the images above. We wish the boys and girls the best of luck in the competition!

We also wish our wonderful quiz team all the very best of luck as they take part in the National Finals of the Community Credit Union Quiz. We are incredibly proud of the team. They are putting in a lot of hard work and training ahead of the National Finals which will take place in the RDS on the 2nd of April! Beir bua a pháistí - you're winners in our eyes already!

Chikens In Eggs Illustration

As some of you may already know we have had some very egg-citing news recently in Scoil Thomáis!

For the past four weeks the school has been taking part in a chick hatching program. This program is organised and monitored by Nore Valley Park Farm in Kilkenny. We are one of many school across the country taking part.

It has been a fantastic learning experience for all pupils in the school from Junior Infants right up to 6th Class. The chicks will live in Scoil Thomáis until the 31st of March and then they will be collected and returned to live on Nore Valley Park Farm.

A special word of thanks to Ms Harvey for co-ordinating the project and to Tony for checking in on our chicks when the school has been closed!

Junior Infants have been learning all about addition. Well done boys and girls!

Mascot Addition

The children in Junior and Senior infants were very excited on Tuesday 28th of March when Penny the pet lamb came to visit. Ms. Foley told us all about Penny's bottle feeding, her tail ring and her umbilical cord. All the children had a chance to pet the lamb and some children were even able to feed her.

Thank you to Ms. Foley and the farmer for bringing Penny to see us in school!
